The Lee volleyball team ended the 2017 regular season with a bang as it rolled past Valdosta State, 3-0 on Saturdayafternoon.

The Lady Flames put together one of their most dominating performances in stunning Valdosta State, 25-7 in the opening set.

Lee fired home 12 kills and committed just one error to post a .355 hitting percentage. The Blazers managed just five kills and were guilty of nine errors for a -.105 hitting mark.

The Lady Flames closed on an 8-3 run in a much more competitive second set to take a commanding 2-0 lead, 25-22.

In fitting fashion senior Brooke Wilsman rattled off three straight aces with the score tied at 20 in the third and final set to help the Lady Flames complete the sweep of the Blazers, 25-21.

“I was very pleased at how we played today. The girls came out strong in the first and then just played with control the rest of the match,” said head coach Andrea Hudson. “I was really proud of Brooke Wilsman for closing out the match with three aces. We are looking forward to the tournament next week and a chance to move on.”

Silvia Sartori led the Lady Flames with 11 kills and nine digs. Bailey Kress followed with nine slams and Quinne Daoust added eight. Sadie Johnson and Kristi Farley each tallied 15 assists.

Chloe Chubilleau led the home team with 10 kills. Katie McInnis added nine slams while Sara Dandridge set things up with 25 assists. The Blazers see their season end at 12-17 and 6-10 in league play.

For the second straight year the Lady Flames complete the season sweep of the Valdosta. Lee won in four sets at home back on Oct. 27.

With the win the Lady Flames improve to 19-9 overall and finish 10-6 in GSC play. Lee will be the No. 6 seed in the GSC Tournament starting on Friday in Pensacola, Fla. The Lady Flames will battle third-seeded West Alabama to open things up. Lee defeated the Tigers in hard-fought five-set match back on Sept. 29 in Walker Arena.

I’ve been reading about the panhandling problem in downtown; it is a huge problem in the Gunbarrel area, too.  It’s commonplace to be accosted by panhandlers when walking from your parked car into a commercial establishment.  And often they are aggressive.  I look carefully around my car before getting out, but sometimes someone will be lurking in between cars and ...
