Couple Gets Recommendation Of Approval For Bed And Breakfast At East Brainerd Farm

Monday, December 11, 2017

A couple on Monday gained a recommendation of approval from the Planning Commission for a bed and breakfast inn in existing space at their East Brainerd Farm.

Philip and Jennifer Clay said the income from the room rentals is necessary for their overall operation of Everlee Farm on 20 acres on Davidson Road.

Councilman Darrin Ledford praised the farm operators, saying they add a unique component to the district.

Mr. Clay said the farm provides fresh vegetables to local restaurants, a school and a grocery chain. It also produces fruit and honey.

Conditions of a zoning move to R-4 Special Zone include no new construction and use of the space for bed and breakfast only.

The Planning Commission recommended against a plan for a bed and breakfast inn at 7722 Lasata Lane.

Lynell Simmons she has three extra bedrooms and would like to rent them out.

Commissioners said the location is not appropriate since it is in the middle of a single-family residential section.

An opponent said he had gathered many signatures from residents who are opposed.
