Calhoun Man Arrested For Rape In East Ridge

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Dustin Reeves Shepherd of Calhoun, Ga., was arrested for the rape of a woman in East Ridge on Sunday. He is charged with rape and false imprisonment.

The victim said she and Shepherd had been seeing each other for about three days. During that time, she said the defendant repeatedly referred to her as “his property.”

On the night of the incident, the victim said Shepherd went with her to Home Plate on Ringgold Road so he could hear her sing. She said the defendant “got very drunk” and groped her in the bar.

The victim said they then went to her house, where Shepherd began to take off her clothing and penetrate her under a blanket while she was sitting on a chair. She said other people were in the room at the time.

The victim said Shepherd followed her into a bathroom and locked the door when she tried to get away. When the defendant began to take off her clothing again and told her to get in the bathtub, she said she did so out of fear. She said in the bathtub, Shepherd got on top of her and “tried again,” then kept her from leaving the room when she managed to get up.

The victim said at this time other people were knocking on the door and trying to get her to open it. When the door finally opened, the victim said Shepherd “denied anything had happened,” then left the house when police were called.
